Taking Hold

It had been weeks since the Rockefellers had fled their home town of Chilton. The small packs of supplies they carried on their backs were now empty sacks. They had rationed out their food surplus and were down to scraps each day. The family had been surviving on mere crumbs, barely enough food to keep a bird alive. Their bodies had broken down to skin and bone. They grew weaker with each passing day, The Rockefeller girl somehow clung to life. One cold night, after eating their scraps, the Rockefellers lay awake on the cold barren ground, the unbearable pain of hunger keeping them up. Mr. Rockefeller noticed a strange sound coming from his daughter. It appeared to be a demonic sort of chant. She began having convulsions. Mr. Rockefeller tried to shake his daughter, believing she was having some kind of nightmare, but she would not flinch. She was in an unconscious state. The young girl’s eyes rolled back into her head. She grappled her father’s neck and would not let go. Her strength outmatched her father’s. Mr. Rockefeller stuttered a questioning “why” with his dying breath. Mrs. Rockefeller watched from only a few feet away as her beloved daughter squeezed the life out of her husband, Tears swelled in Mrs. Rockefeller’s eyes. She was paralyzed with fear. The demon had taken over the young girl’s body. She had been fighting it this entire time, pushing back against its will, but it had finally won. The darkness flowed through her body, taking complete control. The young girl feasted on her father’s remains. Snapping bones, to access the chest cavity. The heart, a delicacy to the beast, was devoured last. The witch had found its portal in which to invoke revenge upon the small town of Chilton. And that portal, was the innocent daughter of Mr. Rockefeller.
