Chilton

Our story begins in a small town outside of Blue Springs, Missouri. Welcome to Chilton. The people of Chilton were a close, tight knit group of people. Everybody knew everybody and that’s how they liked it. Chilton was over hundreds of miles away from the big city,so the town members relied heavily on local businesses. That was all they had. Each family in Chilton seemed to have their own special trade. The town members relied on one another to produce the goods they needed. The Smiths were cotton farmers. They supplied the town with cotton. The Rockefellers produced the town’s clothing. They relied on the Smiths to produce cotton in order to make clothing. Food was supplied and produced by several farming families. Money had no value in the town. The townspeople had no need for it. Everything was purchased through trading. If the Smiths needed new outfits for their children, they traded their cotton to the Rockefellers in exchange for shirts and shorts. When the farmers tools broke, they traded some extra crops to the Gringolds, in exchange for new tools. The Gringolds were the town Blacksmiths. In short, anything the towns people needed, there was a family in the town to supply the demand. The townspeople were happy. Everyone worked and produced their crop. No one ever thought their services were better than the other families. The town was very humble and appreciative of what they had. Life in Chilton was very simple. Nobody complained and everyone did their part. They all gathered at church on Sundays to give thanks for what they had. The children danced and sang around the town, and the adults gathered in the saloon to cheers for various occasions, whether that be a wedding, birthday, or just a good years harvest. This is the way it was for decades. Until one cold day in September, as the season of Harvest was coming to a close, something changed. A new family, The Oxfords, moved into the town from far out West. The townsfolk welcomed the new family with open arms, offering them the shirts off their backs. The new family accepted the gifts but were not as generous in giving back. Something seemed off about the family, it wasn’t apparent at first, but they were not like the others. From this day forward, the peaceful little town of Chilton would never be the same.
