Darkness

The Rockefeller girl’s condition never improved, in fact, it seemed to only worsen as the days went on. The girl’s face had turned an ice white color, and her eyes blacker than the night sky. This is when the townsfolk knew something was amiss. They could see the darkness and evil within the once sweet little girl. This was not the effects of the common cold of flu. This was something much greater. The sky filled with dark hues of gray and black that day. There was an eerie breeze about the Rockefeller’s home. They say to have heard strange sounds coming from the cellar, that of child's play, but when they went to investigate, there was nothing. A heavy rain came down upon the town of Chilton and lasted for many days. The darkness did not let up either. The sun was hid behind a thick cloud of fog, encasing the townsfolk in a state of blackness. There were a couple witnesses that claimed to see the Rockefeller girl chanting and practicing “the devil’s work”. The divided town finally came together. They all came togther as one for the first time in many years, all of them except for the Rockefellers. For their reason of making up was ungodly. They believed Rockefeller’s daughter had been taken over by a darker force. They did not know quite what to call her. Some said witch, demon, cursed, and many other accusations. The townsfolk blamed the poor girl for all the hardships the once peaceful town of Chilton had endured. They believed her to be the cause of their misfortune. The girl’s father was outraged. How could his sweet little daughter have caused all of these horrid occurrences. She was incapable of acquiring such powers. Mr. Rockefeller could not face the truth. Even if he saw the witchcraft take place in front of his own eyes, he would deny it. The townsfolk wanted Rockefeller to turn over his daughter, but he refused.
